The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism and Community Involvement Center (CIC) organized a special art exhibition for the students of SOS Children’s Village. Sponsored by Afik Group, the exhibition showcased a variety of beautiful, flower-themed paintings created by the students.
EMU Faculty of Tourism academic staff member and Chair of CIC Assist. Prof. DR. Nazenin Ruso Kandemir coordinated the said event. The exhibited artwork were inspired by photographs of endemic plants unique to the country, taken by renowned nature photographer Sami Tamson, author of the book ‘Orchids of Northern Cyprus’. Drawing inspiration from Tamson’s images, the children created their own paintings. The pieces were displayed for four days at Latomia 1933, a historic venue, where they attracted great interest from visitors.
“Plays a Key Role in Fostering a Sense of Environmental Responsibility”
The exhibition was officially opened by the students of SOS Children’s Village who had created the artwork. During his speech, nature photographer Sami Tamson highlighted how important it is for children to learn about the rich plant diversity of Northern Cyprus, noting that such awareness plays a key role in fostering a sense of environmental responsibility. Tamson personally interacted with each student, offering feedback on their work and extending his thanks to all those who took part in the project. As a gesture of appreciation, he also donated several of his nature photographs to the SOS Children’s Village.
Making an address during the event, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso Kandemir said, “We are deeply grateful to Mr. Sami Tamson, who embraced the project with genuine excitement as soon as it was shared with him. His dedication to nature and eagerness to inspire children through this passion became a driving force behind our event. Our sincere thanks also go to Afik Group for their meaningful contribution to making this project a reality”.
