EMU SIGNS A COLLABORATION PROTOCOL WITH FAMAGUSTA WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT CENTER

A cooperation protocol has been signed between Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Famagusta Women's Development Center (MAKAMER). The signing ceremony of the said protocol was held on Monday, 7 March 2022 at 09:30 a.m. in EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın's office.

EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu, Director of the School of Computing and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nazife Dimililer, Senior Instructors Yeşim Kapsıl Çırak and Halide Sarıçizmeli, Center for Women's Studies Research Assistant Fatma Türüç and MAKAMER Executive Board Chair Sıdıka Özdoğan, Board Member and Project Manager Pelin Üretici and Executive Board Member Zekiye Acar Aslanses attended the ceremony. Within the scope of the protocol, to which EMU Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, Center for Women's Studies and School of Computing and Technology contributed together with MAKAMER, it is aimed to train women leaders in the fields of informatics and technology, with a special focus on fields where the female ratio is low.

“I Wish the Protocol to Be Beneficial to All Women"

Speaking at the signing ceremony, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that EMU is open to cooperation in all kinds of projects that will benefit the society. Expressing that they have cooperated with MAKAMER in other fields before, Prof. Dr. Hocanın emphasized that this cooperation would further develop with this protocol. Stating that the female-male ratio of administrators, academicians, staff and students at EMU are balanced, Prof. Dr. Hocanın pointed out that EMU is in a good position in terms of gender equality representation and provided information about the centers and education programs within the university. Prof. Dr. Hocanın also stated that in the promotional activities that EMU has carried out in different countries, in order to encourage female students to come from countries from which male students come, especially due to the structure of the regions, the female student candidates are often accommodated in EMU dormitories free of charge. Adding that find this support important in terms of informing and encouraging their children or siblings in this direction, Prof. Dr. Hocanın wished that the protocol would be beneficial to all women.

“Women will Be Directed towards Future Professions"

Talking about the current activities of MAKAMER, President of MAKAMER Sıdıka Özdoğan also said that in order to ensure the acceptance of the gender perspective in society, these issues should be taught to young people and children at all levels of education as a state policy. Noting that this project is very important for the center, Özdoğan stated that the protocol will make a great contribution to directing, encouraging and motivating women to technical professions, which are the professions of the future. Thanking EMU for its cooperation and contributions, Özdoğan stated that many women will graduate at the end of this project.

After the speeches, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın and MAKAMER President Sıdıka Özdoğan signed the cooperation protocol. The signing ceremony ended after a photo shoot.
