Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) hosted “Table Tennis and Chess Tournaments between Dormitories” organized for students accommodating in dormitories all across Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) operating under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Republic of Turkey. The tournaments commenced with an opening ceremony held at EMU Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Complex. Republic of Turkey Ministry of Youth and Sports Coordinator Mithat Tekçam, EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Youth and Sports TRNC Dormitories Education Coordinator Sultan Teksin, Dormitory Directors İbrahim Şimşek, Nurcihan Venedik, Erdal Aksakal, Serhat Yılmaz, Zehra Kılıç and EMU Sports Affairs Director Cemal Konnolu attended the events along with the participating students.
“I wish Success to the Students”
Delivering the opening speech of the ceremony, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Youth and Sports TRNC Dormitories Education Coordinator Sultan Teksin expressed that the annually organized event is being organized for the third time. Teksin stated that the aim of the tournaments is to protect the physical and mental health of the students, to enable them to make sports a lifestyle, and to contribute to making new friendships by competing with the spirit of friendship and brotherhood.
EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu welcomed students who came to EMU from different universities in order to participate in the tournaments. Prof. Saying that they are always open to such collaborations, Prof. Dr. İşçioğlu thanked those who contributed to the organization of the tournament and wished the students success.
“We are organizing Social, Cultural and Sports Activities”
An awarding ceremony took place following the table tennis and chess tournaments where everyone had good time. Delivering the closing speech of the events, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Youth and Sports Coordinator Mithat Tekçam stated that they organize social, cultural and sports activities in dormitories in the TRNC as in the Republic of Turkey, and added stated that such activities strengthen the students and prepare them for the future in a better way. Tekçam congratulated students who received medals and cups.
During the closing ceremony, EMU Vice Rector for Social and Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu was presented with an appreciation plaque by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Youth and sports Coordinator Mithat Tekçam.
